Hello, and welcome to my blog site.....
.....My name is David Patrick Colledge and I am dedicated to the benefits of hypnotherapy and meditation. You can learn more about me further on. For now, I guess that you are curious as to what hypnosis is and how it may benefit you? That's where we will start.
Let me first tell you what hypnosis is not. You are not unconscious or asleep and neither are you in a state where the therapist can take over your mind.
The state of being hypnotised is often referred to as 'trance' or an 'altered state of awareness.' When you reach the trance state you are very aware of what is going on around and to you, but you are also very relaxed and emotionally calmed. Those who have entered trance have used the following descriptions to describe their experiences:
'Amazing. I have never felt so relaxed and calm.'
'Wow! Bliss. Pure bliss, everybody should do it.'
'I didn't think I could be hypnotised 'cause I am always wound up and tense.
But, I don't know how you did it. That was really, wonderful.'
'I can't move! I don't want to move. I want to stay here. It is too nice, too lovely
to leave. This is an unbelievable feeling.'
In short, trance is very healthy for you because you realise how our daily lives wind us up and keep us wound up and it gives you the opportunity to manage unhealthy stress levels.
The very idea of hypnosis throws up several questions for most people. 'Does it work?' is one of the more common ones. This depends on many factors but in short I can say that it can help many conditions. I will list some of those for you that I have successfully dealt with:
*helping people to manage their weight
*conquering the fear of flying, spiders, heights, lifts, water, and many other fears and phobias
*stopping smoking
*getting rid of unwanted habits such as stammering, tooth grinding, blushing, nail biting, nervous twitches and others
*pain relief/control
*increasing self confidence and self esteem
*anger management
*depression
*improvement of sporting, study and work activities
*stress management
*hypochondria
*addictions
*past life regression
Does hypnosis always work? The answer to that is an honest no. Like all therapies and medical treatments there are many factors that help or hinder the success of hypnotherapy. The age of the person seeking help; the seriousness of the problem are just two factors. Think of hypnosis as being supportive to your needs. One major factor is your determination. Let me throw an example at you:
One of the two most common reasons why people seek hypnosis is for help to stop smoking. You contact a hypnotherapist and say that you have got to stop smoking. An honest hypnotherapist will ask you this first and most important question: 'why do you want to stop smoking?' You reply that your doctor has seriously advised you to stop; or that your partner is worried about your smoking or that your children have been on to you to stop.
Other people may want you to stand in front of a double decker or drink prussic acid but you will not because you do not want to, and that is the difference. If you do not have the will, intention or motivation to stop smoking, no amount of therapy of any kind is going to work. You can flip this approach into almost any of the other above conditions.
what are the other common concerns held about the trance state? I'll quickly run through them and answer as I go:
'Can I get stuck in trance?' No. You cannot get stuck and even if something were to happen to the therapist, you would come out of it in your own time .
'Can I be made to say or behave in a way that will embarrass me?' No! Remember that you are in control and no amount of insistence will make you reveal anything that will cause anxiety or make you behave in a weird way.
'Will I fall into a trance a day after or a week after or any time after a session? No! and there is no recorded history of this happening.
'Are there any side effect? The most common feeling coming out of trance is one of calm and relaxation. Some people feel that they want to go to bed earlier and they tend to sleep longer. These are not adverse effects. On the contrary, they are very beneficial.
'How many sessions will I need?' This depends entirely on what it is you want to change and the only honest response to this will be given after the initial consultation; which brings me on to:
'How can I contact you and how much do you charge?
I can be contacted at any of the options below. I am presently based in Leicester but I will travel anywhere in the country. I have been as far north as Edingburgh and as far south as Newquay. Mostly I visit those living in Coventry, Bedworth, Nuneaton, Atherstone, Hinckley, Earl Shilton, Leicester and all outlying villages.
I prefer to see people in their home homes for several reasons. It is my experience that people are more relaxed in their homes and this greatly aids the hypnosis process. Also, you can have a member of the family or a friend in the home with you. When most people come out of trance the last thing they want to do is get in a car and travel home. After the session you can simply carry on relaxing.
I charge £35 for the first session and £30 for subsequent sessions. Please allow yourself up to two hours for the first session as this involves a consultation period at which I will give you an honest appraisal as to the amount of further sessions needed - if any!
